On June 16th, Coquitlam City Council passed a motion requesting that a question about Metro Vancouver’s proposed incinerator be added to an upcoming regional referendum regarding public transportation issues, expected to be held at some point next year.
The motion was originally introduced by Councilor Neal Nicholson, who called for the question to be attached to the November 2014 municipal election ballot.
While it’s uncertain whether the amended motion will be successful in having the incinerator question added to the Translink referendum, it is indicative of the increasing awareness of regional politicians to the sensitivities surrounding Metro Vancouver’s controversial incinerator proposal.
