Nanaimo City Council Votes Unanimously Against Incineration

On April 14, 2014, the Nanaimo City Council voted unanimously 9-0 to reject a proposed incinerator project that would see Metro Vancouver’s garbage barged across the strait and burned in Nanaimo.

Commenting on the vote, the Mayor of Nanaimo cited “massive complaints and concerns from the community, between three and 4,000 emails opposed. It became apparent that this wasn’t going to fly.”
